Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (Capital Markets in Africa):- BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Tuesday, lower than the previous day. BRVM 10 index decreased from 308.42 to 304.26 points, a drop of 1.35 percent. BRVM Composite index lost 0.59 percent to 300.13 against 301.90 points previously.
The equity market capitalization lost XOF 44 billion (about US$63 million) to close at XOF 7,406 billion relative to previous trading sessions’ market capitalization of XOF 7,450 billion.
The market activity measured by total volume was recorded at 575,121 traded stocks relative to 351,834 recorded at previous trading sessions. The total traded value was at XOF 2,633 million (against XOF 857.847 million recorded at previous trading session) exchanged in 31 traded securities via 272 deals. Today’s top stock by volume was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED TOGO with 480,399 traded securities (accounted for about 84 percent of the total volume). SONATEL SENEGAL recorded the highest total traded value of XOF 1,503 million contributing about 51 percent of total traded value. The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 30.36 percent and Price Earnings Ratio was recorded at 23.26.
Among the 31 traded securities today, 12 stocks experienced price gains, 9 witnessed price drops and 10 stocks price remained flat relative to previous closing price, hence market strength ended positive. SMB COTE D’IVOIRE was the top price gainer by adding 7.50 percent to end at XOF 17,200. Other gainers were BOLLORE AFRICA LOGISTIC COTE D’IVOIRE with a rise of 7.03 percent at XOF 198,000 and NESTLE COTE D’IVOIRE closed at XOF 60,100 by adding 5.44 percent. BERNABE COTE D’IVOIRE with a price increase of 4.48 percent to close at XOF 105,000 and CIE COTE D’IVOIRE ended at XOF 83,000 with 2.47 percent gains.
The five top losers were SAPH COTE D’IVOIRE dropped by 4.04 percent to settle at XOF 11,995 and SERVAIR ABIDJAN COTE D’IVOIRE decreased by 2.44 percent to close at XOF 80,000. Likewise, ONATEL BURKINA FASO went down by 2.43 percent to close at XOF 12,050 and SONATEL SENEGAL declined by 1.85 percent to close at XOF 26,500. ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED TOGO with a closing price of XOF 58 after losing 1.69 percent.
From the sector indices viewpoints, the industry sector index advanced by 0.95 percent at 165.10 points but public utilities sector index plunged by 1.60 percent to close at 833.55 points. The distribution sector index rose by 0.35 percent to end at 529.10 points but financial services sector index declined by 0.53 percent to end at 108.99 points. The agriculture sector index sagged by 1.04 percent to close at 205.33 points. Transportation sector index closed at 901.36 points after gaining 6.88 percent and miscellaneous sector index remained unchanged to end at XOF 558.15 points.
